In October 2022, the first Swayed Pines Variety Show was held. This show was inspired by the Swayed Pines Folk Festivals and Pinestock. On October 22, 2022, over 300 CSB+SJU students, their family and friends, and community members gathered at Milk and Honey Ciders to watch poetic, comedic, and musical acts. Peer Resource Program (PRP) sponsored the event, which was created by SJU students Zachary Staver and Sam Rengo. They were inspired by stories of Swayed Pines and Pinestock from Staver’s aunts and uncles, who are CSB+SJU alumni. They wanted a community-centered event that would focus on student talent. The show opened with a tribute to Professor Ed Turley, who had suddenly passed away in October 2022. The show highlighted individual acts along with campus groups, including CSBeats and Attention Starved Children (ASC). This event happened during Family Weekend, so students were able to introduce their families to the CSB+SJU community atmosphere.
