The second Pinestock, on May 10, 1980, featured the Sussman Lawrence band, Raggs, Heartsfield, and the Mary Jane Alm Band. There were also beer and brats to enjoy, with the Rugby team in charge of concessions and security. On May 16, 1981, The Phones, Whiskey River, Albert Collins, and Shangoya played Pinestock.

Pinestock of May 15, 1982, was held inside due to weather. It lasted 8 hours and went through 78 kegs. Mary Jane Alm, Sue Ann Carwell, Shangoya, and Lamont Cranston provided musical entertainment. There were questions in 1982 if it would be the last Pinestock as staff, faculty, and monastery members were complaining about the dangerous and rowdy event. To placate some of these concerns, the concert was hosted on the athletic field at SJU as Watab was seen as too dangerous.

On May 7, 1983, Pinestock was moved back to Watab. The entertainment in 1983 was Blaze, Grass Roots, and Jim Carroll. The event was free for students with CSB+SJU ID. The decision for free student tickets was made due to the faulty generators they rented from a company for Pinestock in 1982. New alcohol policies on campus changed the nature of Pinestock and the ticket prices were steep for non-CSB+SJU students, which led to a decrease in attendance of non-students.

In 1984, everyone had to purchase a ticket to Pinestock, which took place on May 12th. The bands were Limited Warranty, The Draft, STYX, and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. There were 2,500 CSB+SJU students, alumni, and friends in attendance.

On May 11, 1985, Pinestock was held inside the Palaestra due to the weather. The featured bands were the Beet Farmers, Westside, and Model Citizen.

There were a few changes to Pinestock in 1986. The main event was held on May 10th, with a Pinestock Fun Run being hosted in the morning by the Alpha Kappa Sigma fraternity (AKS). The JEC was also accepting food donations during the concert, to go to the Tri-Cap food shelves in St. Cloud. The bands that played were Flock of Seagulls, Johnnie band Electric Soul, and Westside. There was a lot of controversy with these choices, as Electric Soul had only been performing together for four months and it was seen as a disgrace to have them play this semi-professional event.

On May 10, 1987, the 9th Pinestock occurred. Otis Day and the Animal House Band (better known as Otis Day and the Knights from the movie Animal House) was the featured band. Other bands included Trip Shakespeare and the Crazy 8s.

In 1988, Pinestock happened on May 14th. The JEC had a hard time scheduling bands that year. The featured band was the Washington Squares with Ipso Facto, and Oswald and the Herringbones on the bill as well.  There were T-shirts, concessions, and alcohol in a beer garden. JEC had the Palaestra rented as well in case there was a washout like last year, alluded to in a humorous ad in the student newspaper.

On May 13, 1989, the 10th Pinestock occurred. Students were more involved this year. The JEC hosted a Band Forum on March 8th, so students could say what kind of music they would like to hear. Students also learned about the logistics of obtaining certain bands and what was feasible based on affordability and availability. Following the forum, a 10-member Band Committee reached out to the requested bands. There was also a logo contest accepting submissions until March 17th and the student body got to vote on the final winner. The bands who played were The Gooney Birds, Trip Shakespeare, and Butenes (who quickly replaced Nicholas Tremulis, who pulled out of Pinestock the day before). There was a dunk tank and a Dating Game, and they went back to serving keg beer instead of cans which had been done at Pinestock ’88.
