Women and Religion at CSB/SJU

MotherWillibalda.jpg

Inspired by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict, faculty and students have long affirmed women's role in religion, questioned women's exclusion from ordination, and explored women's spirituality.  This exhibit traces some of the ways Saint Benedict's women have led the exploration of women's full participation in religious traditions.

Gender Equity Advocacy at CSB

Eileen O Toole and Betty Friedan[57] copy.jpg

Since 1913, the College of Saint Benedict has pushed the boundaries imposed on women. Students, staff, faculty, and guest speakers have spoken out about changes nedded to achieve gender equity.  From an 1888 student debate on the question “Ought the right of suffrage be extended to women?” to 2021 campus demonstrations against sexual harassment, discussions about women's rights have echoed at both CSB and SJU.    This exhibit explores some of the history that inspires the fight for gender equity that continues today.

Black Voices At CSB/SJU

OAAS 1.jpeg

For nearly a century, Black students, employees and visitors to the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University have been raising their voices, and inspiring white allies to join them.  Their words call our community to live up to our Benedictine values of hospitality, justice, peace, and respect for persons.    This exhibit restores and amplifies those voices as we continue to work toward the common good.
