Pinestock
The Pinestock festivals were sponsored by the CSB and SJU Joints Events Council (JEC), a student organization which was formed in 1979. Pinestock was almost always held on SJU’s Watab Picnic Grounds. Student bands would compete in a Battle of the Bands in early spring to see who would get to open for the main performer of Pinestock. Throughout the years, Pinestock featured such artists, as the Mary Jane Alm Band, Lamont Cranston, Echosmith, and the Phones. Pinestock evolved into “Pines YY” (e.g. “Pines 11”) in 2011. The last Pines festival, Pines 19, was held in 2019.
The first Pinestock occurred on Saturday, May 12, 1979. The event took place on the Watab Picnic Grounds from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The bands featured included the Lamont Cranston Band, Heartsfield, the James Walsh Gypsy Band, and Raggs. Tickets were being sold at St. Cloud State University, as well as at CSB+SJU.
