David Chan, from Hong Kong, studied art at Saint John's, and went on to become a successful filmmaker. He most often worked as a freelance producer for both Hollywood and Chinese films. Among his best-known films are three of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies developed in the 1990s. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I (1990) remains one of the highest-grossing independent releases in American Film history. It won the 1991 CSB Movie Award for Most Popular Children/Family Movie. Chan worked for 32 years at Golden Harvest Entertainment (Holdings) Ltd., a movie company based in Hong Kong. Chan has worked on over 19 international and 100 Chinese films in addition to the blockbuster Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. SJU helped him get used to loneliness which is critical in film. As Chan stated in 2016, when he returned to campus to give a talk, "Loneliness is constantly a recurring theme in a lot of commercial movies. I used those experiences and they helped me a great deal in translating it and incorporating it into screenplays and movies in my career."
