"Wry Straw" features fiddle tunes, Carter Family songs, ragtime pieces, hammer dulcimer instrumentals and authentic Appalachian old-time music based on extensive research. Playing in the trio are John Mccutcheon, a 1974 St. John's graduate who directs a federal project collecting traditional music throughout the South; Tom Bledsoe, an expert on the ethnic heritage of southwest Virginia; and Rich Kirby, who has written textbooks and articles on folk music and on Appalachia.
