Postcard Collecting
This set of white border postcards, published by Hermann Post Card Co., Chicago, initially appears to be a souvenir folder. But these are real postcards sold separately, and organized in a holder by a postcard collector.
The postcards with a wider white border and red type use false intaglio: a plate mark was pressed into the paper even though the printing method did not require it.
The postcard collector was Albert N. Schaefer, who came to St. John's as a student in 1898, earned a Master of Accounts degree in December 1900, and returned after graduation for further study during the 1902-1903 academic year.
