Universal Postal Union Imprint
This postcard, not directly related to the College of Saint Benedict or Saint John's University, is held by the SJU Archives and may be the oldest in our collection.
The front bears both sides of the Jubilee Medal of St. Benedict, embossed, full color, gold-stamped. The divided back includes the word "postcard" in a dozen languages, and the phrase "Union postale universelle." It was published by Alterocca, Terni, circa 1905, no later than 1910.
Alterocca may have been hedging their bets. There is ample white space on the front of the card, and more than half of the back is reserved for the address. So this card could have also been used in countries that did not permit messages on the back of postcards.
