Feminist Betty Friedan at CSB (1992)

Since 1913, the College of Saint Benedict has pushed the boundaries imposed on women. Students, staff, faculty, and guest speakers have spoken out about changes needed to achieve gender equity.  From an 1888 student debate on the question “Ought the right of suffrage be extended to women?” to 2021 campus demonstrations against sexual harassment, discussions about women's rights have echoed at both CSB and SJU.    This exhibit explores some of the history that inspires the fight for gender equity that continues today.
