Military Career

Photocopy of a letter from The President of the United States of America that officially appoints Ed the title of Assistant Paymaster with the rank of Ensign. It is signed by Frank Knox, Secretary of the Navy and is dated September 15th, 1943.
In 1943, Ed enrolled in Officer Training School and was accepted at Harvard University for the study of Business Administration. By 1944, Ed was stationed as a Supply Lieutenant on the U.S.S. Kretchmer, a destroyer escort ship that saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. During his time in the Navy Ed was involved in the liberation of P.O.W.s from Formosa (Taiwan), received a commendation for conduct throughout his service, was initially discharged in 1946 following WWII's conclusion, and was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserves in 1956.
