Description

Pictured on a staircase in Alcuin Library are the original members of the Organization of African American Students: Chet McCoy, Christopher Roberts, Markus Ahmad, Ernie Dial, Willington Pratt, Ron Morris, Glen Jones, Lewis Nixon, Richard Moore, David Taylor, and Jerome P Barney. The Organization of Afro-Associated Students was founded in 1968. The name quickly changed to the Organization of Afro-American Students, which then became the Organization of African American Students. The name was officially changed to Black Student Union (BSU) in 1971, to make it more inclusive to the whole Black student body. Marcus Ahmed was the original chairman of the organization. The other founding officers of the organization were Wellington Pratt, Vice-Chairman; Ron Morris, secretary-treasurer; George Wilson and Martin Lundy, representatives-at-large. Fr. Adrian McCall (SJU Dean of Students) was the club moderator.
